World Rhino Day 2025

22nd Sep 2025

Every year on September 22, the world comes together to celebrate one of Earth’s most iconic yet endangered animals—rhinos.

At Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, we’re lucky enough to care for two incredible southern white rhinos, Rumba and Rumball. These gentle giants have lived with us since 2005 and are much-loved by both our team and visitors. One of their favourite pastimes is rolling in mud, which not only keeps them cool but also shields their skin from the sun. As ambassadors for their species, Rumba and Rumball help us inspire visitors to care about the future of rhinos.

Rhinos have been on Earth for millions of years, yet today all five species are considered threatened. Poaching and habitat loss have driven populations dangerously low. The southern white rhino—Rumba and Rumball’s species—came close to extinction in the late 1800s, when fewer than 100 individuals survived in the wild. Thanks to tireless conservation work, their numbers have since grown to around 18,000, making their recovery a true conservation success story. But the battle is not over—illegal poaching and shrinking habitats continue to put rhinos at risk.

World Rhino Day serves as a reminder of how important it is to keep raising awareness and supporting conservation efforts. Here at Noah’s Ark, we’re proud to play a part in that mission. Through our education programmes, we share the remarkable story of rhino conservation and encourage visitors to take action, ensuring that rhinos continue to roam the Earth for generations to come.
