Threes a charm - Highland Cows are taking over the farm fields!

4th Jun 2025

Three Highland calves have been born at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm – meet Maggie, Lacey and Matilda. These fluffy newcomers are already exploring their surroundings and staying close to their mothers in our Summer Farm Fields.

Agnes was the first to welcome a calf, giving birth to Maggie. Next came Lacey, born to her proud mum Bonnie. And last but certainly not least is Matilda, the newest addition to the herd, born to Merida. Each of these fluffy calves has brought even more charm to our Highland herd!

Highland cattle are an ancient breed, originally from the mountainous regions of western Scotland. Their long, wavy coats help protect them from harsh winters, while their distinctive horns are used to dig through snow for vegetation and to defend against predators.

Highland cows are well known for their calm temperaments and resilience. As one of the oldest registered cattle breeds in the world, they’ve adapted to thrive in tough conditions and are still farmed today, mainly for beef. Their striking appearance and gentle nature make them a favourite among visitors.
