One Year of Aqua: Celebrating Aqua the Rescue Tiger’s First Year
29th Oct 2026
One year ago, rescued tiger Aqua arrived at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm to begin a new chapter of his life. As we mark this special milestone, we’re looking back at his remarkable journey from rescue to his forever home.
Aqua's Rescue
In October 2019, a horsebox carrying 10 tigers was stopped at the Poland-Belarus border after officials discovered that the transport documents were incomplete.
The tigers were found in appalling conditions, cramped, frightened and covered in their own waste. Tragically, one tiger died before the animals could be moved to safety.
The remaining nine tigers were seized and taken into temporary care, with five, including Aqua, later transferred to AAP Primadomus in Spain, a specialist animal rescue and rehabilitation centre.
Aqua was among the most stressed of the group. His recovery would take time, patience and specialist care, as his dedicated caregivers worked to help him settle and prepare for the next chapter of his life.
Arriving at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
After six years of care and rehabilitation at AAP Primadomus, Aqua’s journey brought him to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in October 2025.
Finding the right forever home for a rescued tiger takes careful planning. Every animal has individual needs, and Aqua’s future habitat was designed with his welfare, character and wellbeing at its heart.
Following his arrival, Aqua spent time acclimatising before being introduced to his new purpose-built habitat. The space provides opportunities for enrichment, exploration and exercise, including pond areas that cater to his love of water.
For the team at Noah’s Ark, welcoming Aqua marked an important milestone in Project Carnivora, our multi-phase initiative focused on the welfare and conservation of some of the world’s most iconic and threatened carnivores.
One Year On
A year on from his arrival, Aqua continues to receive expert care from our dedicated animal team as he settles into his new surroundings.
His journey is a reminder that rescue is about more than bringing an animal to safety. It is about providing the right environment, specialist care and ongoing support to help them thrive for years to come.
In March 2026, Aqua also received specialist dental treatment following routine health checks that identified historic tooth damage. Working alongside internationally recognised wildlife dental consultant Peter Kertesz from Zoo Dent, our team helped address these issues as part of his ongoing healthcare plan.
Every stage of Aqua’s journey reflects the importance of long-term commitment to rescued animals and the people who dedicate their time to their care.
Help us support Aqua's Future
Although Aqua is now safe in his forever home, his care is an ongoing commitment.
Through our Rescue Tiger Appeal, we continue to raise funds to support his long-term care, specialist diet, enrichment and the continued development of his habitat.
Every donation helps us provide Aqua with the environment and support he needs, giving him the best possible future.
One year on, we’re proud to be part of Aqua’s story and look forward to sharing more updates as he continues to settle into life at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm.
