Happy World Bee Day! 🐝
20th May 2026
Happy Bee Day from all of us at Noahās Ark Zoo Farm! š
Did you know our very own beehives help to pollinate plants right across the Zoo - including the pumpkins growing in our famous Pumpkin Patch? Itās a brilliant example of how even the smallest residents here play a huge role in keeping our wider landscape thriving.
Bees are some of natureās most important workers. As they move from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen, they help plants reproduce, supporting everything from wildflowers in our meadows to the fruit, vegetables, and crops we rely on every day. Without them, many of the foods and habitats we take for granted simply wouldnāt exist in the same way.
But despite their importance, bee populations are facing increasing pressure around the world. Habitat loss, pesticide use, disease, and the impacts of climate change are all contributing to a worrying decline in many pollinator species.
In the UK alone, there are over 250 species of bee - from honeybees to solitary bees and bumblebees - each playing their own unique role in supporting biodiversity. Protecting them isnāt just about saving one species; itās about safeguarding entire ecosystems.
Thatās why conservation work, education, and even small actions in our own gardens and green spaces matter so much. Whether itās planting bee-friendly flowers, avoiding harmful chemicals, or simply learning more about pollinators, every action helps.
How you can help bees thrive
There are simple ways everyone can make a difference:
- Plant bee-friendly flowers such as lavender, foxglove, and wild marjoram.
- Avoid using pesticides in gardens and outdoor spaces.
- Leave areas of your garden a little wild to create natural habitats.
- Support local honey producers and sustainable beekeeping.
You can even pick up a pot of our very own honey from the Farm Shop a sweet way to support pollinators and enjoy the results of their hard work.
This World Bee Day, weāre celebrating the tiny pollinators making a huge impact across our Zoo and beyond.
