Celebrating World Environment Day at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm 🌍
4th Jun 2025
At Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, conservation is more than a word – it's a commitment. This World Environment Day, we’re reflecting on the incredible work being done here at the zoo and around the world to protect animals and their environments.
From hosting impactful conservation events to raising vital funds for charities across the globe, we’re proud to play our part in supporting the planet and the amazing species we share it with.
🐘 Conservation in Action
We pride ourselves on the strong relationships we have built with several conservation charities. Throughout the year, Noah's Ark hosts a number of conservation events, each highlighting a different flagship species.
These events are designed to educate, engage and inspire. Visitors can learn more about each species’ conservation status, the threats they face, and—importantly—how we can all help.
Let’s take a closer look at the conservation projects we proudly support:
🐯 Rescue Tiger Appeal
We’ve launched our biggest and boldest mission yet: to build a forever home for a very special tiger named Aqua.
In 2019, Aqua was rescued from horrific trafficking conditions at the Poland-Belarus border. Rehabilitated in Spain, he is now waiting to come to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, where we plan to build a spacious, enriching habitat designed just for him.
We are now racing to raise £175,000. With your support, we can give Aqua the safe and loving home he desperately deserves.
Find out more about the Rescue Tiger Appeal here.
Spectacled Bear Conservation
After the birth of twin Andean bear cubs here at Noah’s Ark, we knew we wanted to do more to protect this remarkable species. We support Spectacled Bear Conservation (SBC), which works in northern Peru to conserve spectacled bears and their habitat.
SBC’s work involves scientific research, habitat protection and close collaboration with local communities to ensure these iconic bears survive and thrive.
🌱 World Land Trust – Action Fund
The animals at Noah’s Ark serve as ambassadors for their wild cousins and their homes. That’s why we support the World Land Trust (WLT), a global charity that has helped protect over 2.4 million acres of threatened habitats.
We contribute to their Action Fund, which allows WLT to respond rapidly to urgent conservation needs—from protecting land under threat, to fighting wildfires, and supporting wildlife rangers.
🐘 Elephants and Bees Project
Human-elephant conflict is a growing problem in parts of Africa, where elephants raid crops and come into dangerous contact with farmers.
We support the innovative Elephants and Bees Project, which uses beehive fences to naturally deter elephants from farmland while helping local people harvest “elephant-friendly” honey.
At Noah’s Ark, we raised £790 for this important initiative and hosted a lively African Carnival for World Elephant Day.
🦁 The Safina Lion Conservation Fund
Named after a lioness from Linton Zoo, this fund is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for wild lion conservation. Lions now only exist in fragmented populations across Africa and India, and face serious threats including habitat loss and poaching.
🦒 Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF)
Giraffe numbers have dropped by 40% in just three decades. GCF is the only organisation focused solely on giraffe conservation in the wild.
We’ve hosted special giraffe-themed days and raised £1,481 to support their vital work across Africa.
🦅 VulPro – Vulture Conservation
Vultures are vital to ecosystems but are declining rapidly due to poisoning, habitat loss, and collisions with power lines.
VulPro, based in South Africa, is working to save these misunderstood birds through GPS tracking, rehabilitation, and breeding programmes. Our Bird Keepers have formed strong ties with VulPro, and we’ve raised over £100 to date.
🐍 Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust (ARC)
In the UK, reptiles and amphibians need our help too. That’s why we support ARC, which manages over 80 reserves and leads national projects for our native species.
We’ve raised over £840 for ARC through events like Reptile Week.
🦓 Breeding for the Future
Conservation isn’t just about the wild. It’s also about ensuring genetically healthy populations of threatened animals in human care. Noah’s Ark participates in the European Breeding Programme (EEP), helping safeguard the future of species like:
- Vulnerable Tapirs, African Elephants, and Spectacled Bears
- Endangered Crowned Cranes and Siamang Gibbons
- Critically Endangered Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, Bactrian Camels, and White-headed Vultures
We're also home to the largest Elephant Bull facility in the UK. Elephant bull facilities are hugely important in the wider African elephant breeding programme, of which we are part of the European bracket. Long term, the bulls at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm's bull facility will move off to other collections in the UK, Europe and potentially further afield that hold breeding facilities with viable cows, and hopefully have lots of success contributing to the African elephant breeding programme.
🌿 How You Can Help
