Graphic Designer
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Graphic Designer to join our dynamic marketing team.
This exciting new role will play a vital part in visually communicating our brand, values, and mission to diverse audiences across multiple platforms. From eye-catching digital campaigns to engaging on-site visuals, the Graphic Designer will support both the marketing team and wider Zoo departments in delivering creative, consistent, and high-quality design outputs.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager, who also acts as the Zoo’s brand custodian, to ensure all design work aligns with our visual identity and messaging. This is a unique opportunity to bring creativity to a cause-driven organisation that inspires conservation, education, and connection with nature.
Core Responsibilities:
· Create high-quality, visually engaging designs for a wide range of digital and print materials including:
o Website graphics and assets
o Social media content and templates
o Email graphics and templates
o On-site advertising screens and signage
o Digital billboards and outdoor advertisements
o Leaflets, posters, banners, and brochures
o Educational/information boards
o Event and campaign branding assets
o Functional operational signage
· Maintain and evolve the Zoo’s visual identity across all media, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines.
· Work collaboratively with the marketing team to develop compelling visual content to support campaigns, promotions, and events.
· Support other departments with design requirements as needed (e.g. Education, Fundraising, Retail, Catering, Operations).
· Liaise with printers, signage providers, and external vendors to ensure the successful production and delivery of printed materials, to deadline and budget.
· Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions and concept development for marketing campaigns.
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
· Keep up-to-date with design trends, tools, and techniques to bring fresh ideas and innovation to the role.
· Maintain an organised archive of design files and template.
· Champion accessibility and inclusivity in all design outputs.
Other Responsibilities:
· Acting as the main coordinator for onsite IT support, liaising with our internal IT lead and external IT contractors.
· Carry out other duties which may or may not be related to the job as reasonably requested by management.
· To provide adhoc support to the Head of Sales & Marketing and Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager.
· Staffing of the office on a rota basis (2 weekend day per month and occasional bank holidays).
Person Specification:
Education & Qualifications:
· A relevant qualification in graphic design or a related field, or equivalent experience. (Essential)
· Additional training or certification in digital media, animation, or illustration. (Desirable)
Experience:
· Demonstrable experience producing design work across both digital and print formats. This can include professional, freelance, or personal projects. (Essential)
· Experience working within brand guidelines and creating content for public-facing organisations. (Desirable)
Skills & Abilities:
· Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. (Essential)
· Strong eye for design, layout, colour, typography, and visual storytelling. (Essential)
· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, maintaining attention to detail. (Essential)
· Able to interpret briefs and maintain consistency with brand identity. (Essential)
· Understanding of accessibility and inclusivity in design. (Desirable)
Personal Attributes:
· Creative, curious, and open to learning new techniques and tools. (Essential)
· A positive, proactive approach to feedback and collaboration. (Essential)
· A team player with good communication skills. (Essential)
· Passion or interest in animals, conservation, or environmental education. (Desirable)
Work Pattern:
Permanent, 4 days per week (plus 2 weekend days per month)
Salary:
£26,000 - £28,000 FTE per annum, dependent on experience.
