Summer's still here - plan your visit before the schools go back

27th Aug 2016

Summer is still with us, and if you’re looking for something to do this Bank Holiday Monday before the schools go back – read on!

We all know that variety is the spice of life, and it’s something Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm has in abundance. With 100 acres of beautiful Somerset countryside and over 100 different species of incredible animals, bird and reptiles - a trip to us is the perfect way to introduce your children to the diversity of animal life this summer holiday, before your little ones head back to the classroom. They will learn all about each species as they make their way around the grounds, and they are sure to be amazed by our animals, both big and small. Noah’s Ark is home to the 'Big Zoo Animals', and we're not exaggerating. There’s lots of good zoos around the UK, we’re proud to say we’ve made ours residence for nature’s biggest and best. Come and say hello to our elephants, rhinos, giraffes and big cats – and there will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Get up-close to our tall giraffe friends and then head over to see the big, strong white rhinos. Coming from South Africa, where the climate is mild all year round, they certainly enjoy the warmer days during the summer months! Zoo trips should be both fun and educational. A trip to Noah’s Ark will give your family a chance to learn about the work zoos do for endangered species including breeding programs. We are privileged to be able to offer a spacious, rich environment to some of the world’s most endangered species. Andean bears(new this season – and very cute!) African elephants, Siamang gibbons and white-headed vultures are all part of European Endangered Species Programmes (EEPs) which links the work of member zoos around the world. Our tigers and Brazilian tapirs have also been classified as ‘endangered’.

Arguably the biggest and the best (depending on which of our Keepers you speak to..!) our African elephants Janu and M’Changa come with lots of energy and character. Check them out in our impressive Elephant Eden, Northern Europe’s largest elephant habitat! Spanning over an impressive 20 acres, it has been described as a “five star luxury destination for elephants” by international elephant expert Alan Roocroft. Not to be outdone, our African lion Masai and lioness Arusha have certainly made Noah’s Ark their home, as have our Bengal tigers, Tiana and Khan. We’re even hoping we may have the patter of not-so-tiny feline paws sometime soon, our loved up lions look like starting a family – stay tuned… For those eager to learn more, our daily educational Keeper Talks are a fun way to widen your knowledge regarding our amazing animals. Our experts will tell you all about reptiles, big cats, elephants, giraffes and more, so make sure you take a look at our event timetable and head to the right place in time for the talk. And it shouldn’t be all listening and learning – Noah’s Ark is about adventure and fun too. With 15 indoor and outdoor playgrounds, the world’s longest hedge maze and bumpy tractor rides out across the farm, not to mention the last week of our hugely popular Elephant Trail – you’ll be in need of an ice cream and drink before you head home when our gates shut at 5pm. Phew!

We look forward to welcoming you and hope you go home at the end of your visit with some newfound knowledge and plenty of happy, fun-filled memories.
