Our Myna Bird is called MYNA !

Mynas are in the same family as Starlings, the Sturnidae Family, of 106 species.

The Latin name acrido-theres means locust-hunting, and tristis means sad, referring to its plain brown or black plumage.

These birds have been taken around the world to help control insects such as locusts, but they are so aggressive that they have now become pests, especially in Australia. There they persecute small birds and small mammals, such as the feather glider.

However the Family are clever voice imitators. Just as starlings can copy many other birds’ songs, so Mynas can copy many human sounds.

Mynas can live happily on a mainly fruit diet, as ours does.

Some members of this Family live close to man and control insect pests, like the Starling and the Oxpecker. The Starling is renowned for the enormous flocks (murmurations) that gather and fly together with astonishing agility.

We are going to make Myna a bigger cage as soon as we can. But his present one is bigger than the one he has lived in up till now.
