Millie gives birth to first baby marmoset at Noah’s Ark
Hand-reared marmoset monkey Millie gives her baby the upbringing she never had
Noah’s Ark are happy to announce the birth of their first marmoset monkey. Mille the cotton-eared marmoset arrived at Noah’s Ark in 2003, and had to be hand-reared by keeper Lucie Guilbert as her parents could not care for her. A few years on and now the little monkey is now giving her own baby the marmoset mothering she herself never had.
Head keeper Chris Wilkinson talks about Millie’s mothering ability, “We were surprised and happy to see that Millie has been an excellent mother, as often when animals are hand reared they lack the mothering skills needed to successfully raise offspring. However the youngster seems to be growing well and looks very healthy.”
The proud parents take it in turns to carry the mouse-sized baby on their back everywhere they go, sharing the work equally between them –perhaps a lesson for us all!
Visitors can see Millie and her new baby in the Monkey House at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, Bristol throughout the week Tuesday – Saturday, 10:30 – 5:00. More photographs can be found on the Noah’s Ark website at www.noahsarkzoofarm.co.uk
