Pericles & Priscilla

You will see there is a definite 'peck order' of the birds in this pen, with the quail coming last, then the guinea fowl, then the turkeys and peafowl.

The three species of Peacocks or peafowl are members of the phasianidae or pheasant family.

Our Peafowl are the common or Asian peafowl, the other two are the Green and the Congo peafowl. The Asian is renown for its magnificent display of its long upper tail coverts, just in front of its true and shorter tail feathers.

A peafowls' normal diet is insects, worms, seeds and small snakes.

They will often incubate their own eggs, which take 28 days to hatch. Like other members of the phasianidae family, the chicks are born fully equipped, with a fluffy coat on, to move around looking for food with their mothers.
