These are lambs that have no mother. They were born in the flock of sheep that spend the winter in our farm buildings in the first week in April. Their mothers were Cluns or Texel X and their fathers were either our Jacob or Suffolk rams.
Their wool has clothed people for thousands of years. Adult sheep are usually sheared in May, when the weather is getting hotter.
These lambs have been bred for the meat market. The consumer requires lamb that is 5 months old, for the fastest growing; older for slower growers.
Sheep are part of the Bovidae or Cattle family. They chew the cud and have cloven hoofs.
