Slither, Slider, Slippy & Slimy

These snails can grow up to 25cm shell length. They are quite easy to keep as pets.

Snails are hermaphrodite (male and female at the same time). They lay about 200 eggs at a time in peat and fertilise them with a bag of spermatozoa that they keep behind their head.

In their native African countries they are common and live everywhere where it is warm and damp enough and live off a wide variety of vegetation. They need calcium for their shells, which they can get from rocks, soil or cuttlefish in captivity.

They are usually nocturnal but can be woken by a water shower. They should not be handled by the rim of the shell, as this is the part that grows and is more delicate. They like temperatures of 17-24 Degrees Celsius.
