Lorna & Lenny

Lemurs have opposable thumbs and, like all primates, are brachiating animals (that swing by their arms).

Lemurs are entirely vegetarian, eating mainly fruit with supplemental leaves, nectar and seeds.

They are very noisy!

They have large forward facing eyes, protruding nose with wet glandular area round the nostrils.

They usually have 36 teeth, a lower jaw in 2 un-fused halves and forward-pointing lower teeth for 'combing'.

Black and White Ruffed Lemurs (Varecia variegatus variegatus) are a highly endangered species of lemurs from Madagascar. Only 10% of the original rain forest habitat remains.

Lemurs have a gestation period of 90-102 days and they can have up to 6 young but a litter of 3 is most common.
