Why did it happen?

All land-dwelling animals, including perhaps as many as a billion human beings, perished in the Flood. They were not simply killed; according to the biblical record, they were ‘blotted out’, leaving no trace. It was the biggest natural disaster of all time.

God decided to destroy the earth because he was sickened by man’s wickedness – by the evil thoughts and deeds of the one kind of creature he had made to reflect his own nature.

But there was one righteous man on the earth, whose name was Noah. God warned Noah of his intention to wipe out creation and gave him instructions for the building of an ark. The purpose was to preserve at least two of every land-dwelling creature so that after the Flood life could begin again.
